As the sunlight peeks through the curtains, another day begins in the world of eyelash extensions. For an eyelash extension technician, each day is a canvas waiting to be adorned with the flutter of eyelashes, and behind the glamour lies a meticulous routine and dedication to craft. Let's take a glimpse into the daily hustle and bustle of an eyelash extension technician.
Morning Rituals and Preparation: The day typically starts early for an eyelash extension technician, with a cup of coffee in hand and a quick review of the day's schedule. Before the first client arrives, the technician ensures that the workspace is clean, organised, and sanitised. Sterilising tools and disinfecting surfaces are non-negotiables, setting the stage for a safe and hygienic environment.
Client Consultations and Bookings: As the clock ticks closer to the first appointment, the lash technician greets clients with a warm smile and conducts thorough consultations. This is the time to understand the client's desired lash look, assess their natural lashes' condition, and discuss any concerns or allergies. Clear communication is key, as it sets expectations and ensures client satisfaction.
The Art of Eyelash Extension Application: With consultations complete, it's time for the main event – the eyelash extension application process. Each set of eyelash extensions is a masterpiece in itself, meticulously crafted to enhance the client's natural beauty. The eyelash extension technician carefully selects the appropriate length, curl, and thickness of extensions, customising the look to suit the client's eye shape and preferences. With steady hands and precision, each eyelash extension is delicately bonded to the natural lash, creating a seamless and stunning result.
Attention to Detail and Comfort: Throughout the appointment, the eyelash extension technician prioritises the client's comfort and satisfaction. From providing cozy blankets to ensuring proper eye protection during the application process, every detail is considered to make the experience enjoyable and relaxing.
Managing Bookings and Follow-Ups: As one eyelash extension appointment wraps up, another client eagerly awaits their eyelash transformation. Managing bookings efficiently is crucial to ensure a steady flow of clients throughout the day. Whether it's scheduling follow-up appointments or sending out reminders, staying organised is essential for a smooth operation.
Continuous Learning and Improvement: Beyond the daily routines, an eyelash extension technician is always seeking opportunities for growth and learning. Staying updated on the latest techniques, trends, and products is essential to deliver top-notch service and maintain client satisfaction. Whether it's attending workshops, watching tutorials, or experimenting with new styles, continuous improvement is the hallmark of a dedicated lash technician.
As the sun sets on another busy day, a sense of fulfilment washes over the eyelash extension technician. Each fluttering eyelash represents not just a beauty enhancement but also a connection forged with clients. Behind the scenes, it's the passion, dedication, and attention to detail that truly make the magic happen. And as the world drifts off to sleep, the promise of another day in the life of an eyelash extension technician awaits, filled with endless possibilities and eyelash dreams to fulfil.
The journey of an eyelash extension technician is undoubtedly a rewarding one, filled with creativity, artistry, and endless opportunities to make others feel beautiful inside and out. ]]>The beauty industry is booming, and lash artistry has emerged as a profitable and rewarding career option for many. Lash technicians, or lash techs, play a crucial role in enhancing clients' natural beauty through services like eyelash extensions, lash lifts and tints. If you're curious about the earning potential as a lash technician or lash tech, let's dive into the salary trends for lash techs in Australia in 2024.
Demand for lash techs has skyrocketed in recent years, driven by the growing emphasis on self-care and aesthetics. Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok have popularised flawless eyelash extensions, leading more people to seek out these services. As a result, there's a high demand for well-trained and particular lash techs.
Becoming a certified lash tech typically involves undergoing comprehensive training through a reputable lash academy. These courses cover essential topics such as lash extension application techniques, safety protocols, and client consultation skills. Quality education is crucial for aspiring lash techs, as it not only enhances their skills but also boosts their credibility and confidence in the industry.
With the right skills and certification, lash techs can embark on a rewarding career journey. In 2024, the average salary for lash technicians in Australia reflects the increasing demand for their services. While earnings can vary based on factors like location, experience, and clientele, skilled lash techs can expect to earn a competitive salary.
In major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, where the beauty industry thrives, lash techs often command higher rates due to the higher demand and cost of living. Experienced lash technicians in these cities can earn upwards of $80,000 to $120,000 annually. Additionally, those who establish a loyal client base and offer premium services may earn mid six-figure salaries.
Even in regional areas and smaller cities, lash techs can enjoy a very comfortable income depending on the amount of clientele available. Though salaries may be slightly lower compared to metropolitan areas, the lower cost of living allows lash techs to maintain a high quality of life. With the flexibility to set their own schedules and work independently or within established beauty salons, lash technicians have the freedom to customise their careers to fit their lifestyle preferences. The profitability of becoming a lash technician maximises when lash techs work for themselves from the comfort of their own home. With minimal overheads and the ability to book out full days with lash clients, a lash technician can really optimise their schedule to take in as much income as $3,000 to $4,000 a week!
Beyond the financial rewards, working as a lash tech offers intrinsic benefits such as creativity, job satisfaction, and the opportunity to build meaningful connections with clients. Transforming someone's appearance and boosting their confidence through expertly applied lash extensions is incredibly fulfilling for many lash technicians.
In summary, the salary outlook for lash techs in Australia remains promising in 2024, with steady growth of client demand in coming years. As the beauty industry evolves and the demand for lash services grows, skilled professionals can expect to reap the rewards of their expertise. Whether you're considering a career change or looking to enhance your beauty skills, becoming a lash tech offers a fulfilling and financially rewarding path forward.

]]>Lets go over the types of eye shapes your clients may have, the pros and cons, and how they can benefit from lash styling.
Almond Eyes: Blessed with a classic almond shape? You're in luck! Almond eyes are versatile and can pull off almost any lash style. Whether you prefer a natural or dramatic look, opt for extensions that mimic the natural curve of your eye. A mix of shorter and longer eyelash extensions can enhance your natural shape without overwhelming it.
Round Eyes: If your eyes are round, you'll want to elongate them for a more balanced appearance. Choose eyelash extensions that are longer in the outer, and shorter at the inner corners to create the illusion of elongated eyes. Cat Eye lash mapping is common and a very highly preferred lash style. Wispy lashes can also help soften the roundness.
Hooded Eyes: Hooded eyes have a charming allure, but they can also pose challenges when it comes to eyelash extensions. To open up hooded eyes, focus on lifting and elongating the lashes. Opt for longer extensions towards the outer corners to create a lifting effect and make the eyes appear larger. Avoid overly heavy or dramatic styles that can weigh down the eyelids.
Monolid Eyes: Monolid eyes are characterized by a lack of a distinct crease, which requires a strategic approach to eyelash extensions. Choose lightweight extensions with a natural curl to avoid weighing down the eyelids. Focus on adding length and volume to the outer corners to create the illusion of depth and dimension.
Deep-Set Eyes: Deep-set eyes are set further back in the eye socket, which can make them appear smaller. To make deep-set eyes pop, opt for longer extensions with a curled shape to draw attention to the eyes. Avoid overly heavy or dense eyelash extensions that can overpower the natural shape of the eyes.
Close-Set Eyes: Close-set eyes are positioned closer together than average, requiring a delicate balance of volume and length. Choose eyelash extensions that are longer towards the outer corners to create the illusion of width and separation between the eyes. Avoid overly voluminous styles that can make the eyes appear even closer together.
Wide-Set Eyes: Wide-set eyes have more space between them, creating a naturally captivating look. To enhance wide-set eyes, opt for eyelash extensions that are longer towards the inner corners and centre to bring focus to the centre of the face. Wispy eyelash extension sets can also help soften the space between the eyes for a balanced look.
Understanding your clients eye shape is crucial when selecting the perfect eyelash extensions. Whether you have almond, round, hooded, monolid, deep-set, close-set, or wide-set eyes, there's a lash extension style that's tailored just for you.
At Lash Boss Melbourne, we're dedicated to helping you unlock your lash potential and achieve stunning eyelash extensions sets that your clients desire. ]]>Is a Career in Eyelash Extensions Profitable? Exploring the Eyelash Extensions Business Landscape
In recent years, the beauty industry has witnessed a surge in demand for eyelash extension technicians, transforming it into a lucrative field for aspiring entrepreneurs. With the rise of social media influencers flaunting their impeccable eyelash extensions and the growing emphasis on enhancing natural beauty, the demand for eyelash extension services has never been higher. But is a career in eyelash extensions truly profitable? Let's explore the eyelash extensions business landscape to find out.
Firstly, investing in a quality eyelash extensions course is paramount for those aspiring to enter the industry. Eyelash extension training not only equips individuals with essential skills but also instills confidence in their craft. At Lash Boss Melbourne, we recognise the importance of comprehensive yet easy to grasp eyelash extensions training, offering courses tailored to beginners and even experienced technicians alike. Armed with the right knowledge and techniques, graduates can kickstart their journey into the world of eyelash extensions.
One of the key advantages of pursuing a career in eyelash extensions is the relatively low startup costs compared to other beauty ventures. Whether you opt for an eyelash extensions salon or decide to operate from a home salon, the initial investment is considerably lower, making it accessible to a wider demographic of entrepreneurs. With dedication and strategic marketing efforts, an eyelash extension business has the potential to yield substantial returns on investment.
Moreover, the recurring nature of eyelash extensions appointments ensures a steady stream of income for eyelash extension technicians. Eyelash extension clients typically require refills every few weeks to maintain their desired eyelash extensions look, resulting in consistent business opportunities. By fostering strong client relationships and providing exceptional service, eyelash extensions technicians can secure repeat bookings and referrals, further expanding their clientele.
The flexibility offered by a career in eyelash extensions is another appealing aspect for many individuals. Whether you choose to work full-time or part-time, the freedom to set your own schedule allows for a better work-life balance. Additionally, the ability to operate from a home salon provides convenience for both the technician and the client, eliminating the need for extensive commutes. As time is money, this indirectly contributes to the profitability of an eyelash extension business. Often, eyelash extension technicians start out part time, or as a side business, before their eyelash extension business takes off into a full time role. This transition means they can reduce hours in their previous role before diving into their full time eyelash extension business. The transition means time and money is not lost when making the change to an eyelash extension business.
As with any business venture, success in the eyelash extension industry requires dedication, perseverance, and ongoing education. Staying up to date with the latest lash styling trends and eyelash extension techniques ensures that your skills remain relevant in a competitive market. By continuously refining your craft and offering exceptional service, you can position yourself as a reputable eyelash extension technician and build a thriving lash business.
In conclusion, a career in eyelash extensions can indeed be highly profitable for those willing to invest time and effort into their craft. With the right training, business judgement and dedication, aspiring eyelash extension business owners can carve out a profitable eyelash extension business in the booming beauty industry.
We teach students how they can start and run their own eyelash extension business, grow into a full time eyelash extension business, and ensure their lash salon or business has healthy income, is profitable, and has excellent customer satisfaction for returning clientele. ]]>Firstly, it's important to note that eyelash extensions are designed to enhance natural lashes. They are made of PBT which is glued onto your natural eyelashes using eyelash extension adhesive. Using mascara for volume lashes can cause the eyelash extensions to clump together, which can ruin the look that you are trying to achieve.
Another important factor to consider is the type of mascara that you are using. Not all mascaras are suitable for use with eyelash extensions. Waterproof mascara, for instance, can be difficult to remove and can weaken the bond between the eyelash extensions and your natural eyelashes. It's also important to avoid oil-based mascaras, as they can dissolve the eyelash extension adhesive used to attach the eyelash extensions. Instead, you should opt for a mascara that is specifically designed and formulated for use with eyelash extensions.
Our latest product release is a mascara that is safe to use over eyelash extensions. It is a growth mascara that not only enhances the look of your natural eyelashes, but also has natural ingredients that help your natural eyelashes grow thicker, stronger, longer and healthier. We designed our mascara to be used either with, or without eyelash extensions. Lash Boss Melbourne recommends our very own growth mascara if you intend on wearing any mascara over eyelash extensions.
If you do choose to use mascara over your eyelash extensions, there are a few tips and precautions that you should keep in mind, even if the mascara is our very own growth mascara. Firstly, make sure that your eyelash extensions and natural eyelashes are completely dry before applying the mascara. If they are still wet, the mascara can cause the extensions to clump together. You should also be very gentle when applying mascara, taking care not to tug on the eyelash extensions or apply too much pressure.
In summary, while it is possible to use mascara over eyelash extensions, it may not always be advisable. If you feel that your natural eyelashes need a little extra volume, be weary of the mascara you use. Use only high-quality mascara that has the appropriate ingredients. If you do choose to use mascara, make sure that it is safe for use with eyelash extensions and that you apply it gently to avoid damaging your eyelash extensions.
To view our latest release Growth Mascara, click here. This mascara is completely safe to use with eyelash extensions. The ingredients used to formulate the mascara have been carefully chosen to work with, and not against, eyelash extensions. Of course, be careful when applying, and be mindful when removing the mascara.
If you have any questions relating to using mascara over eyelash extensions, ask our friendly team for assistance or advice at hello@lashbossmelb.comClassic eyelash extensions are the most popular type of eyelash extensions. They're also the most natural looking style of eyelash extensions. Classic eyelash extensions are best suited for people that want a more natural look that's long-lasting, easy to maintain, doesn’t cost a fortune, is quicker to apply than all other eyelash extension types, and is fast and affordable to refill.
Classic eyelash extensions, when applied correctly by a professional eyelash extension technician, should look almost like an enhanced mascara is applied, without the clumping and grouping of mascara. The feeling of waking up and not needing any eye makeup is what most clients desire, and their reasoning for eyelash extensions.
Volume eyelash extensions are a popular style of false eyelashes that are dense and fuller than classic eyelash extensions. They're used to create a dramatic look. The volume eyelash extension has been around since the early 2000s, but it wasn't until recently that they became so popular among clients, looking for bolder looks.
The way volume eyelash extensions give so much density and fullness is by applying multiple, fan-like eyelash extensions onto a single natural eyelash. For example, a fan eyelash extension of 3 - 10 false lashes can be put onto a single natural eyelash.
It’s easy to imagine what having 10 times the amount of lashes would look like! Thick, full, dense, fluffy and bold. This is known as a ‘Mega’, or ‘Russian’ look, which falls under volume eyelash extensions.
Hybrid eyelash extensions are a combination of classic eyelash extensions (the most natural) and volume eyelash extensions (the fluffier, more dense) lashes. They're slightly thicker and fuller than classic eyelash extensions, but thinner than volume eyelash extensions. They have just enough length to make your eyes pop, but not so much that they look unnatural or dramatic. Hybrid eyelash extensions are great for clients who want to look fuller than a classic/natural set of eyelash extensions, without going overboard with density or thickness. The changing lengths and thicknesses of a hybrid eyelash extension set is what makes it unique, with some clients requesting a wet and wispy look (alternating lengths and thicknesses that make the lash line look wet).
This blog was designed to help clients and those considering eyelash extensions understand the different types of eyelash extensions. If you're looking for a way to add some flair to your look, then we suggest trying out a new style of eyelash extensions. If you have any questions about which style or type of eyelash extension is right for you, please feel free to contact our friendly team. Our instructors and eyelash extension technicians are industry professionals that can help you find the look you’re trying to achieve.
]]>If you've ever wondered whether eyelash extensions are safe, then this is the blog for you. Eyelash extensions are probably one of the first things that come to mind when people think about beautifying their faces. For some women, natural eyelashes just aren't long or full enough. For those who want more dramatic eyelashes than natural, but don't want the hassle of daily mascara, eyelash extensions are a great alternative - they add length and volume without harming your natural eyelashes. As long as you do your due diligence and find a good, professional eyelash extension technician to apply them
Eyelash extensions are a safe, effective and long-lasting way to enhance your natural lashes. As with any beauty treatment, it's important to do your research before choosing an eyelash extension salon or eyelash extension technician. Make sure they use high quality eyelash extension products and sterilise their tools properly.
If you're considering eyelash extensions for the first time, don't be afraid of asking questions! Your eyelash extension technician should be able to explain how they'll apply the lashes and what kind of maintenance they require. It's also helpful if your eyelash extension technician can show you examples of past clients' eyelash extensions so that you know what results are possible with this procedure.
Eyelash extensions are safe when applied correctly, but they can cause some damage to natural eyelashes if not applied properly, or removed using the right process. As with any cosmetic procedure, it's important that you follow all of the aftercare advice from your eyelash extension technician.
There are risks associated with every type of cosmetic procedure and eyelash extensions are no exception. Eyelash extensions can cause damage in the following ways. For example, someone can have an allergic reaction to lash adhesives (used for bonding the eyelash extensions onto natural lashes), or if the wrong eyelash extensions are used, there can be too much strain placed on the natural lashes. Over time the added weight of the wrong eyelash extensions can cause the natural eyelashes to fall out too early, resulting in poor eyelash health and slowing new natural eyelash growth.
This in mind, there are a few things you as an eyelash extension customer can do to eliminate the risk of having damaged, missing, sparse, painful natural lashes.
If you have unanswered questions about whether eyelash extensions are safe for your natural lashes, please get in contact for further clarification. Our friendly team can help you understand why eyelash extensions should be a safe procedure, what to look for, and what to stay away from.
]]>Having a point of difference can also help potential eyelash extension clients in your area choose your eyelash extension salon over a competitors business - examples include; mobile eyelash extension services, other beauty treatments (consider lash lifts and lash tints), offer discounts for friends, and different application style options that others don’t offer - colour options, length, curl, thickness and style options.
The key to most eyelash extension businesses is repeat customers. Many eyelash extension businesses start off by providing their lash clients with very affordable or discounted eyelash extensions. This helps them to grow their eyelash extension business with a high customer return rate, particularly if they are doing a fantastic job at applying eyelash extensions. Pricing of your eyelash extensions services can later be adjusted depending how busy you get, and how much workload you can handle. You can then filter out the cheaper paying customers for new, higher paying clients! Other eyelash extension businesses may use a rewards program for returning customers, where eyelash extension customers are rewarded after X amount of visits.
Traditional forms of marketing are an assured way of growing an eyelash extension business, however, in recent times, the price of marketing traditionally has exceeded in comparison to marketing digitally or on social media. Traditional marketing often means offline - including letterbox drops (flyers and business cards), TV and radio, billboards, newspaper and magazine ads. Medium to larger sized businesses are more inclined to traditional forms of marketing. Digital and social media marketing are cheaper, and can be free at times, which is why many smaller and newly established businesses go for social media and digital marketing.
Social media and digital marketing have revolutionised the way eyelash extension businesses build their brand, reputation and expand their reach. The easiest, fastest, potentially cheapest method of marketing an eyelash extension business today - sometimes even free. Engage directly with your current and prospective eyelash extension customers. Expand your brand's reach and awareness by uploading content regularly, whether it be photos of your eyelash extension work, client testimonials, videos or information regarding your eyelash extension or lash lift services.
While word of mouth relies heavily on high quality eyelash extension work, satisfied customers and lots of time to build, it could very well be the most effective and rewarding way to market your eyelash extension business. Many eyelash extension businesses subtly remind their eyelash extension clients to refer their eyelash extension business to friends and family, which works tremendously - almost creating a network or community of eyelash extension clients for your eyelash extension salon or business. Word of mouth creates trust and a strong reputation for your eyelash extension business. The best way to promote word of mouth marketing is by providing excellent customer service and even better eyelash extension applications.

]]>The upside is, that technically anyone is eligible to start learning eyelash extensions at any age. There are no minimum age limits for anyone wanting to learn this skill - just like there isn’t an age limit for anyone to learn how to mow lawn, service a car, or build and program a computer. There aren’t any limitations when it comes to learning eyelash extensions.
However, there may be constraints when submitting applications for work as a lash technician. In most states around Australia, the legal working age is generally 15 years of age. We have enrolled and taught students as young as 14 years old to learn eyelash extension applications. In fact, one of our best ever students was a 14 year old! She was able to learn lash extensions very quickly, and had amazing precision. She was able to go on and work in the booming lash industry at age 15 with amazing results. Her intentions are to soon open up her own home lash salon and work for herself!
Another age based limitation is when applying for an ABN (Australian Business Number). Even if you’re certified to perform eyelash extension applications, the minimum legal age for registering an ABN in your name is 18 years. This means that owning your own business is for the 18 and over, however, does not mean you can’t start an eyelash extension course and start your learning. Imagine the experience an 18 year old would have for starting a lash extension course at the age of 15! 3 years experience in the lash industry before opening up their own lash extension business is a big bonus and almost guarantees trust in clients.
Young women are dominating in the beauty sector. There are qualified lash technicians, performing lash extension applications and lash lifts almost as good as, if not better than, the most experienced lash artists. This is because they are up to date with lash trends and are able to use their resources (usually online and on social media) to learn techniques from women that have 10+ or 20+ years in the industry - in a matter of minutes. Our youngest lash students have been driven, motivated and super patient when it comes to studying lash extensions.
If you’re under the age of 18, have considered doing a lash extension course, want more information on where to begin lashing, or have a question about age restrictions - contact us here at any time for undisclosed and honest advice on what your options are. You’ll be surprised how soon you can start lash extensions and be on your way to a fulfilling lash career.
]]>When starting off, the main quality a student will need is patience. Like everything, learning eyelash extensions requires time. Eyelash extension applications take a steady hand to ensure quality work is achieved. It’s tedious work applying eyelash extensions and depending on the clients natural eyelashes, it can be hard to fulfil a perfect lash extension set.
In time, any student can be a precise and detailed lash artist, making flawless lash sets and lash lifts. Once a lash student starts doing a couple sets on live models, their confidence and trust in the process will become apparent. They will form their own techniques that work for them, resulting in faster lash applications, amazing looking lash sets and most importantly, happy clients!
If you’re a eyelash extension student, or are interested in a eyelash extension course or training in person, don’t hesitate to reach out to our friendly team with any of your questions. Learning eyelash extensions and doing an eyelash extension course is not as daunting as it first seems! We’ll walk you through the process of becoming a qualified lash artist, with unlimited support to ensure your success. Our support extends to after you’ve graduated and are taking on your own eyelash extension or lash lift clients. Contact us any time with your questions or concerns!
It improves our service greatly when we receive questions, to understand what our eyelash extension students and future students want and need help with. We’re always looking for ways to improve, if you have any topics you’d like to know more about, please feel free to get in touch here!

]]>Starting your social media presence early can be the difference of weeks or even months of digital marketing done while you wait for your lash course. If you have an existing beauty page or blog, it can be worthwhile taking advantage of your audience to promote your new endeavours.
Buying business essentials to start your lash salon is also a great way to utilise the time you have before completing your lash course. While you build on your salon or home-based business, take photos and videos, as this is excellent content for your pages. Don’t be hesitant to show others your progress. Everyone knows a business starts with an idea, and your followers can see the honesty in your work.
Lash extension course completion - Congrats, you are now a certified lash technician! Once you get your lash extension certification in applying eyelash extensions, it’s time to formalise your business. This can be done at earlier stages, but getting your lash certification is the most important step as this will be necessary for insurance purposes. Your insurer may ask for proof of your course certification. Business insurance is not only affordable, it’s essential! Protect yourself and your newly established lash business by seeking insurance. Hoping you never need it, it’s better to have it than not.
Registering your lash business (ABN and Business Name), is done online. You’ll need to decide the structure of your business. You may wish to setup a partnership, register as a sole-trader, or setup a company. Seek what’s right for you. Consider professional help or learn online using the Australian Business Register website. At the time of registering your business name, it may be worthwhile checking to see if there is a matching domain name available (if you intend to build a website for advertising and portfolio purposes). You can use providers such as GoDaddy or Crazy Domains to register your domain name.
Time to make some money. Getting lash clients is your income, so pay close attention to what works for you and do it consistently. It’s great to have started making money, but you should keep up your efforts as consistency in advertising is crucial for continued revenue. There are free methods of advertising and promoting your new lash business which are recommended to even the already established lash businesses. These may include reaching out to family and friends for support, social media content created by yourself, blogging, creating a Google Business Listing, and (the best of all), word of mouth and referrals. You will be surprised how many free resources there are online to create content that looks professional. Once you have started these free methods of gaining clientele, then should you consider paid methods of advertising. These may include ads on social media, creating a website, printing business cards and flyers for letterbox drops. Get used to the idea of creating a 'brand' for yourself, as this is a digital representation of you and your lash business.

]]>Starting with an often neglected digital marketing platform - websites. A simple yet constructive website that includes reviews and testimonials, description of eyelash extension services, a client booking system, all can be the difference of looking like an okay lash tech and being a professional eyelash extension technician. Basically, the more information you provide on your lash business, lash extension services, lash extension pricing and past customer satisfaction, the better. The reviews and testimonials you display on your website shows your performance as a lash technician, enabling trust to future clients. Don’t miss those paying clients by neglecting your website, or not having one at all. Over 50% of your market uses Google to find a reputable eyelash extension technician. Be found by being present - similar to your social media.
Social media pages have a way of directing people to your lash business. Social media algorithms act as a search engine, catching your potential customers while they are casually browsing. Using key words, interests, and capturing other data, they can literally showcase your lash business right in front of your customers eyes. Similar to a website, use social media as a platform to present your amazing lash application skills and super satisfied customer testimonials.
Incentives are a shoppers best friend. Consider discounts, offers and referral programs on lash applications or lash products. Anything that can bring value back into your clients pocket is a solid way to transition them into repeat customers. You can even bring them back to your lash salon with a rewards program, where consistently returning will have them saving money. Retaining customers is just as important as gaining clients.
Support from your friends and family is vital. Word of mouth about your new lash business starts from family and friends, helping your new venture flourish. Get it right by introducing your lash business to your loved ones. Incentives, discounts, giveaways and promotions for friends and family are an option but are ultimately your decision.
Word of mouth is our favourite, and the lash industry’s best form of direct marketing. Being free, and extremely successful, word of mouth marketing can expand your business in a matter of months, potentially weeks. We naturally make recommendations and referrals to people we know in everyday conversation, so encouraging your clients to recommend your lash extension business to their network is an amazing strategy to quickly grow your lash business.
We believe referrals are a strong form of free and successful networking that can expand your lash extension business. We have more information on word of mouth marketing here, “Your best marketing strategy - Word of mouth.”
If you have any questions about how to be a qualified lash technician, or how to start your own lash extension business, feel free to contact us here or email us directly at hello@lashbossmelb.com
]]>Word of mouth referrals occur in natural conversation. Word of mouth can produce a ripple effect. A ripple effect, in basic terms, means one person tells another, that person will tell another, telling another and so on. You may have encountered the ripple effect, even by someone that hasn’t experienced the product or service. For example, a friend may recommend a blockbuster film that they haven’t even seen yet. Commenting: “I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard from a few people that it’s really good. It’s about…” Another example might be, “I had my hair done at the hairdresser down the road, I don’t mind it… But Shelly got her hair done around the corner and it looks so good.”
Part of our day to day talk with friends and family is to ask questions on what’s new and what we like. “Where is that T-Shirt is from? Who did your hair? Where are those sunnies from?” Study after study shows that 92% of consumers trust and take recommendations from friends and family over traditional and online advertising.
Like-minded people will also refer products, services, ideas and motivation to their network of similar thinkers. Think influencers… Their audience is following them for their lifestyle, goals, or way of thinking. If you’re a lash technician, following other lash technicians, for lash technician related material, chances are you’re paying attention to their content to learn from them or understand their take on the lash industry. Someone wanting to advertise lash supplies, lash courses or learning material, may consult an influencer with a lash tech background so they can refer the advertisement to their direct target market. The influencers’ audience trusts, respects, acknowledges and understands the influencers recommendation, as an expert in the field of applying eyelash extensions.
Word of mouth is highly regarded as one of the most effective forms of direct marketing for its precision and success. Not only can it be easily executed, it’s also free! Ask your clients to write and post reviews on your outstanding lash applications, recommending their friends to your lash salon, therefore, generating business and getting clients for no cost whatsoever. In a matter of months or even weeks, your lash business could flourish with word of mouth marketing.
We offer lash supplies and courses with the support you need to start and manage your own lash business. We have unlimited support for students via email, sms, phone and live chat to have any of your questions answered. If you’re doing a lash course with us and feel you need help, please reach out to us. To know more about our lash products, lash courses or lash training, or to have your enquiries answered, feel free to contact us here, or email hello@lashbossmelb.com
]]>Before your client arrives
First and foremost, you need to ensure your lash room is ready. This means any equipment you'll need during your appointment, any decor, and lash extension supplies. It's a good idea to guarantee you have the correct lash supplies for the work you will be carrying out. Consider discussing what your client wants in terms of lash styling and lengths before they arrive. Give yourself ample time to source additional lash supplies if you don't have the stock available.
First impressions can mean a lot. It's a good idea to imagine yourself as being the client that enters your lash home salon. What would you like to see? What wouldn't you like to see? A clean environment is highly regarded for most of your clients. Some useful things to include in your new lash salon include a mirror for clients to see end results, a first aid kit, sanitisation station for your hands as well as tools, wipes and towels, consultation forms to be filled out before you start any applications or removals.
Although this step can be done right before you start your application, it might be a good idea to have it done earlier to save time. Sterilize all your application tools for the session. This may include tweezers, jade stone, personal mirrors, etc. Use fresh towels and give your workspace a wipe down including the lash bed.
During the session
So your first ever lash client has arrived, you've welcomed them into your home or salon, the very first thing you should do is hand them a consultation form. This gets all their details and approval for any lash application work you are about to carry out. Once filled out, file the consultation form and discuss the appointment. You may wish to discuss/confirm lash styling and lash extension lengths, how long the appointment will go for or how long they are expected to have their eyes closed, and if they have ever had extensions. This is not only great as a conversation starter, but will give you an idea on their experience as a lash client.
Offer water, mints and maybe even a collagen lip mask before you start. Have your client lie down on the lash bed, and please take 'before' photos, you will use them to promote yourself on social media or your website.
Once you get started, it's a good idea to check on your client every 20 minutes or so. Some lash technicians like to do an eye at a time, so their clients can see the progress before the full treatment is complete. Be sure to puff away the lash glue fumes at least halfway through the treatment, or after one eye is complete. When you complete the set, definitely do not forget those 'after' photo's. Build your portfolio quickly and consistently.
After your session
Once your have blown all the fumes out of your clients eyes, remove the gel under-eye pads and ensure there is no irritation or stinging. Allow your client to see the end result, provide them with a mascara wand and explain aftercare. Encourage reviews and testimonials. Word of mouth, referrals and recommendations will expand your business faster than any other way. To lock in further appointments with your client, as if they would like to book in refills in advance. Keep record of their appointment and encourage them to do the same. It's a great idea to follow up with them a day or two before the appointment date.
There you have it, your first client at your own salon! For more tips, for help, or if you have any questions regarding your first client, feel free to contact us here, or email hello@lashbossmelb.com
]]>There is no surefire way to get the perfect ideas but there are easy ways to get your creativity flowing. No one can guarantee you of having the perfect mindset but there are methods that may aid you in achieving that state of mind. Here are 3 easy ways to promote creativity in your space.
1) Keep a diary or a journal with you always. Ideas can be triggered by anything you may hear, see, or smell. Your senses are your radar in finding great ideas. Write all your ideas into a journal and keep it with you for future reference. Remember that ideas and creativity can come from anywhere; so having a diary of your quick and small ideas may help your formulate something unique and effective.
2) Relax and take time to sort things out. A jumbled mind cannot create any space for new ideas. Everyone must have a clear mind if one wishes to have their creativity in full speed. Get rid of all obstacles that can be a hindrance to your creativity. If you are bothered by something, you cannot force your mind to stay focused.
Try to relax every time that you can and think about your experiences and interactions with others. Your experiences are what shape your mindset and your opinions which could be reflected on your writings. Try to discover yourself, find out what triggers your emotions. Discover what inspires you and what ticks you off. You can use these emotions to help you in expressing yourself and your ideas, with this you can grow creatively.
3) Set a workspace that can inspire your creativity. Your working place can be quite a hindrance if it doesn’t make you feel happy or relaxed. Creativity comes from being in a good state of mind and an overwhelming workspace that causes distraction won’t be productive for firing up your creative flow.
Surround your work space with objects that makes you happy and relaxed. A clean and well organized workspace also rids distractions. With a good workspace, you can be productive and create ideas consistently.
]]>If retention is something you're struggling with as an eyelash extension client, you can read more here.
]]>One great, simple way to look after your lash extensions between appointments is to brush them. Without brushing, over time, your lash extensions may start to cross over, tangle and fall out. Invest in a lash brush (mascara wand) or spoolie and brush the lashes in the same direction every day. This will keep the lashes looking fuller, defined and prevent them from falling out as easily.
Mascara is not needed with lash extensions, but some people may choose to wear other eye makeup such as eyeliner. When it comes to removing this, use gentle micellar water and never scrub your eyes – the friction can cause the extensions to fall out, tangle or damage.
Bacteria can build up around the eye area, especially if you wear makeup. Oils can collect and over time, causing the lashes to detach from your natural lashes. Prevent this by regularly using a lash cleanser. Oils from makeup such as mascara and some eye liners can cause the lash glue to deteriorate. Lash cleaners are gentle and suitable for use around the eye area. Massage the lashes from base to tip using the cleanser and rinse with water for clean and healthy lashes. Leaving lashes with built up bacteria and oil can cause painful or itchy irritation.
Sometimes, if one lash extension falls out, it can be tempting to start picking. However, pulling out your lash extensions is a very bad idea, as you may also end up pulling out some of your natural lashes. If your lashes look sparse, use a brush to comb them back in to place. Also, ensure to book regular infills to remove the temptation to pluck them out.

The chair of your choice may be comfortable at first, but consider your posture and support that chair is offering your back while you lash. It’s only after prolonged use that you will notice that your chair may be what’s causing any pain. Lash technicians around the world are jumping on board with an ergonomic chair.
Keeping your back straight, chin up, and feet flat on the ground are all ways to improve your posture while applying eyelash extensions. Another way of looking after your back may be a support belt or posture corrector. These are great as they remind the body to keep a healthy posture even when your mind is occupied with your clients’ eyelashes. They can be worn underneath your clothing, so shouldn’t be noticeable to your clients.
Working out those back muscles are a must. Even though you’re seated and you may not think of lashing as strenuous exercise, your back muscles are working hard to hold up your upper body in sometimes awkward positions for a long period of time. As well as being strong, back muscles should be stretched before committing to that 1.5 hour lash application session. Be sure to stretch between clients – even 5 – 10 minutes of walking, standing or stretching is better than no movement at all.
Consider going for a massage from time to time. Your back may develop knots, which could be the underlying issue for your back pain. A good massage should get the knots out of your back, which could also help you have a better overall posture.
Looking after your back is important especially for a lash technician. You may be lashing for long periods of time, for a long time – so be sure to follow some of the tips suggested for a healthier lashing experience.
]]>What is a lash educator
A lash trainer or lash educator is, in simple terms, an instructor that teaches existing lash technicians to be lash educators of their own. It is an advanced course only for fully certified and qualified lash technicians who have been in the industry for at least 2 years. Experience in applying eyelash extensions is paramount, as this hands on experience is brought to the training room to teach other lash technicians.
Is there further training involved?
Becoming a lash educator is a bit of work and there is further training involved. Essentially, training to be an educator requires a course with some very important guidelines. Topics that are generally covered in a lash educator course may include insurance, health and safety, setting up a training room, hiring staff, learning material (video tutorials and physical manuals), additional equipment for the training room, and workplace responsibilities.
How easy or hard is the course?
The complexity of the lash trainer course will depending heavily on your level of industry knowledge and experience. The course does require you to create content for your course including your classic and volume lash manuals or online material. The educator course can be timely as supplies need to be sourced for your students, equipment needs to be purchased, your training room setup, and having learning material at industry standard and approved by your course educator.
What’s needed to be a lash trainer?
Basic equipment your lash room should be fitted with include; a lash bed, lash light, comfortable and ergonomic chair, extra supplies if necessary, rubbish bin for keeping your area tidy and safe, sterilising station for tweezers and other sensitive tools, a first aid kit.

]]>Training courses for eyelash extensions are a valuable investment. The cost of your training might get you thinking about whether classic and volume training is actually worthwhile. However, being able to offer eyelash extensions as a fully trained lash technician gives you a fantastic return on investment.
Eyelash extensions can be a highly profitable business, especially if you’re working from home or in a mobile capacity. This automatically means you don’t have to factor in the cost of renting salon space. The actual treatment cost is usually as little as a few dollars per client, but you can charge around $150 for a treatment that takes between 1-2 hours. Of course, the amount you can realistically charge for your treatments will depend on your level of experience.
With Lash Boss Melbourne’s at home training packages ranging in price from $450-$800, it means you only need to see a few clients to get your investment back. Training sessions in person at our Chadstone office cost more, but even with our highest priced and most comprehensive training course, you could get your investment back after just 10 clients.
Taking all this into consideration, it’s clear that training as a lash technician offers you a fantastic return on investment and can really increase the profitability of your business. If you’re ready to make a valuable investment, take a look at our website https://lashbossmelb.com/collections/at-home-packages

]]>If you're starting your journey as an eyelash extension technician, insurance is something you may need.
What insurance do you need and why do you need it?
It’s essential for lash technicians to have the right type of insurance in place. If you're running a salon from home, you’ll need public liability insurance for damage or injury caused by your business, as well as product liability insurance for damage or injury caused by the products you use.
Whilst eyelash extensions are safe to carry out, it’s important to recognise that you’re working on a delicate area of the body. It’s always possible for accidents to occur. If there’s an accident during or after treatment, it’s important to have good insurance cover in place and to report the matter to your insurer for further advice.
If you have been employed by a beauty salon you may not need insurance yourself but it is required for your employer to have insurance and work-cover.
What does specialist insurance cover?
Specialist insurance for the lash industry usually covers a variety of different lash treatments, such as extensions and lash lifts. Some policies will also include eyebrow treatments. If you’re uncertain, speak to your insurance provider to find out exactly what the policy covers you for and to make sure it’s appropriate for your business.
At Lash Boss Melbourne, we want both technicians and clients to benefit from safe treatments. We encourage lash technicians and businesses to purchase ongoing insurance that will cover you in the event of an accident. Not having appropriate insurance risks damaging your business reputation, as well as your finance if you’re found liable for an accident.
